An unusual construction in the heart of the Olympic village in Sochi attracted the attention of our independent reporters. Right in the center of the village, near the “Fisht” Stadium and the Olympic Fire, there is
a functioning cemetery of “old believers” (a specific Christian denomination in Russia, that stayed faithful to the old traditions of the Russian Orthodox church before it was reformed in the 17th century; the style of their lives, the way they dress etc is also 17th century-like). It actually doesn’t seem to be so unusual for those who live in Krasnodar, Russia, either – because there is also a cemetery right in the center of our city very close to the main street!

It is interesting that we don’t percept
death as something normal, even though it seems to be such a natural stage of life.
All of us suffer if we lose the ones we love, and we cannot see it as something natural, saying “Oh well, it happens, people die, never mind…”
For a long time I tried to stay cynical towards death, tried not to think about it, but every time I had to face death I could not pretend.
Death is something unnatural, it contradicts life!
God made the human beings mortal after Adam sinned, so that people who were separated from Him by their sins could understand that there is something wrong with our world and so that the limited time of our life would make us s
earch for the answers to the questions: “Why do I live? What is the meaning of my life? What will happen to me when I die?” If you ask yourself these questions and search for the answers you can eventually find God. The Lord explains His purpose in the Holy Scripture: “and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us”

God wants us to find Him, to get to know Him. I think that was the reason why He arranged it so, that right in the heart of the Olympic village, near the main Stadium, in the place where thousands of people from all over the world come daily now,
there is a cemetery with a rather ironical “Welcome” written on its fence!
People who believe in Jesus Christ, who have personal relationship with God, do not fear death, because they know they already have eternal life – and they are not afraid of God’s judgment, are not afraid of hell.
If you are not sure about what happens to you when you die, please make peace with God!
“ For whoever is joined with all the living, there is hope; surely a live dog is better than a dead lion. For the living know they will die; but the dead do not know anything, nor have they any longer a reward, for their memory is forgotten. Indeed their love, their hate and their zeal have already perished, and they will no longer have a share in all that is done under the sun”
“… then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it”.
